Agartala, Dec 21: Sorokkhaibam Gambhini, a renowned Manipuri poet from Tripura, has been selected for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award.

She has been given the award for her poetry book ‘Yachangba Nang Hallo’.

In a social media post, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday greeted the poet on her achievement. It’s a matter of pride for the people of Tripura, he commented.

According to PIB, the Sahitya Akademi has announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 24 languages. 9 books of poetry, 6 of novel, 5 of short stories, 3 Essays and 1 Literary Study have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2023.

The Awards, recommended by distinguished Jury members in 24 Indian languages, were approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi which met on 20th December, 2023 under the Chairmanship of Madhav Kaushik, President, Sahitya Akademi.

The books were selected on the basis of recommendations made by a Jury of three members in the concerned languages in accordance with the procedure laid down for the purpose.
