Agartala, July 07: Once considered a remote place, Gondatwisa in Tripura has overcome various challenges and now emerged as leader in mango production in the state.
On Sunday, Narkelkunja, a famous tourist destination in Gondatwisa sub-division, hosted the state-level Mango Festival, marking a significant milestone in the development of the state's horticultural field.
Minister for Agriculture Ratanlal Nath, along with former MP Lok Sabha Rebati Tripura and other dignitaries, inaugurated the Mango Festival and a Farmers’ Knowledge Centre.
In Gondatwisa, 212 hectares of land in 15 ADC villages are dedicated to the cultivation of 22 varieties of mangoes. Among the local varieties, Amrapali, Himsagar, and Rupali are prominent, while exotic varieties like Miyazaki and Haribhanga add to the region's diverse production.
The mangoes produced here not only satisfy the demand within the state, including Agartala, Ambasa and Dharmanagar, but are also being exported to other states.
Nath said, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare stands ready to support the farmers of this region with all possible assistance. He also invited horticultural producers from across the state to visit Gondatwisa and exchange ideas with the local farmers.
