TU amends regulation: Students to be promoted after each end term exam till 5th Sem, CM hails

Agartala, Sept 30: Tripura University has amended regulations governing under-graduate programmes in accordance with National Education Policy- 2020, effective from the Academic Session 2023-24.
According to the notification, a candidate who appears in a semester examination but fails in any one or more subject/ course of that semester or one who is eligible appear in a semester examination but remained absent (on medical grounds only) shall be promoted to the next semester up to 5th semester examination provided examination form is duly submitted and requisite fee paid by the candidate.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha in a social media post hailed the decision and announced that the MBB University is also in the process of taking similar decision for the interest of the students of 2 affiliated Colleges under the University.
“I welcome this decision of the two Universities and hope it will definitely boost up the students’ enthusiasm for pursuing Higher Education,” Dr. Saha commented.
To appear in the 6th semester examination a candidate must successfully complete a minimum of 50 percent credits of the total (major papers from 1-5th semester examination i.e. he/she must pass at least 6 major papers as per Annexure- I of the existing regulations), the notification said.
Any student passing Higher Secondary/ H.S. (+2)/ Senior Secondary examination or its equivalent from any recognized Board/ Council shall be eligible for admission through CUET or by admission process conducted by Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Tripura to the 1st Semester of the Under Graduate (B.A./ B. Sc./ B. Com/ B. Music. BVA or any other programme governed by this rule) programme of studies subject to availability of scats.
However, no student shall be allowed for admission into 1st semester course of studies after a lapse of more than 5 years from the year of passing the previous qualifying examination. (Explanation: The year of admission shall not be taken into account while calculating five years from the year of passing the previous qualifying Examination).
