Agartala, Oct 11: In a growing trend of illegal cross-border movement, two Bangladeshi women were detained at Agartala railway station based on a tip-off.
The women, identified as Rabana Akhtar (20) from Rangpur and Asma Khatun (22) from Jessore, had reportedly entered India illegally and were planning to travel to another state by a train.
A coordinated operation by the GRP, RPF, BSF, and intelligence agencies led to their capture.
A case has been registered against them at the Agartala GRP police station, and the two will be presented before the court on Saturday, OC Tapas Malakar said.
The state has been witnessing a surge in the number of Bangladeshis entering Tripura illegally, raising concerns about border security and regional safety.
Authorities are intensifying their vigilance to curb such incidents but a good number of people from the neighboring country are entering the Indian Territory through Tripura on a regular basis.
