Udaipur bank scam: Suspected mastermind arrested, constable closed

Udaipur, Feb 22: The suspected mastermind behind a massive scam at a private bank in Udaipur was arrested from Agartala on Friday.
Police confirmed the arrest of bank’s deputy manager Abhijit Sarkar from Agartala railway station area. Police said, the arrested person would be produced before the court on Saturday.
A police constable posted at R.K. Pur police station has been closed from duty and attached to Udaipur police line in connection with his alleged involvement in the scam.
Several customers of HDFC Bank, Udaipur suffered unauthorized withdrawal of their fixed deposits amounting to over Rs. 82 lakh. Several cases were filed after such incidents came to light.
Sources said, police are suspecting involvement of several other people including the police constable’s wife.
SDPO Udaipur Nirman Das, who is investigating the case, assured that appropriate action would be taken against all the culprits.
