Sonamura, Feb 17: Work on a community hall in the East Chandigarh Gram Panchayat area of Melaghar has been stalled for years due to the closure of a scheme.

The project was sanctioned under the previous Left government in 2014-15, with Rs. 75,35,514 allocated by the Rural Development department for the project in Ward No. 2 of East Chandigarh village, under the Mohanbhog RD Block and Panchayat Samiti.

The project was supposed to be completed within ten months. Initially, an amount of Rs. 40.50 lakh was released. The initial work progressed, but construction has remained stalled since 2018 due to the closure of the scheme.

Executive Engineer Dibakar Shil said the project was sanctioned under the SCA fund by the SC Welfare department. He also mentioned that the funds released for the project had already been spent.

Currently, the incomplete structure stands in a deteriorating state.
