Kailasahar, Nov 22: The 10-day long traditional Sanghati Mela is set to commence from January 2 next at Kailasahar in Unakoti district of the state under the initiative of social organization “Ashray”.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the Congress MLA and the founder of the ‘Ashray’ Birjit Sinha said that the fair will last till January 11 next. He said that this year the 23rd Sanghati Mela will be held in memory of Maharaja Dhiraj Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Deb Burman. At least 250 stalls will be set up in the 10 days long fair this year, he added.
Various self-help groups will showcase their products for sale in the fair. In addition to this, stalls showcasing various welfare schemes of both the Central and the State government will be set up. BSF and Assam Rifles will also set up their stalls in the fair this year, he told reporters.
He also informed that various cultural programmes daily in the evening hours throughout the 10 days of the fair with the participation of local artists. Moreover, a friendly women's football match will be organized at the Kailasahar College Stadium during the fair, he said.
Former MP Rajmata Bibhu Kumar Devi and Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Burman will be invited for the inauguration of the fair on January 2 next, he said, adding that various social activities including voluntary blood donation camp, sit and draw competition, tree plantation programme, mega health camp, cloth distribution programme and others will be organized during the ten-day long fair.
