Agartala Sept 13: In a sudden boost to the Congress in Tripura that seemed to have lost its roots in the state, 257 people belonging to the indigenous community joined the party in a program at Pradesh Congress headquarters on Wednesday.
Welcoming the new joinees by handing over party flags, Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said that such joining programs will continue in the coming days.
TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha said, “The Tripura Pradesh Congress has further strengthened with the mass joining of 257 people from 57 tribal families from different parts of the state”.
Taking a jibe over the ruling BJP, Saha said, “The BJP leaders, Prime Minister and others keep on boasting about development but going to hills and suburbs of the state one can notice what is the real scenario”.
“People do not have basic facilities, many are deprived from government facilities, youths, women and children especially the poor are spending days in distress”, he said.
Congress MLA and permanent invitee member of CWC Sudip Roy Barman said, “Whatever the people belonging to indigenous communities have received so far starting from 6th schedule, ADC and others have been given by the Congress led government in the Centre”.
“It is the Congress party which respects the emotions, sentiments and tries its level best to fulfill the legitimate demands of the indigenous people. Congress believes in intrusive development”, he said.
Urging the common people to join under the banner of Congress, Roy Barman said, “I urge the people belonging to all sections especially the youths to come forward and join the Congress which is the only alternative that can lead towards true development”.
“You have supported many parties, be it regional or national, but you can realize that you got nothing in return except divisive policies and betrayal. The Congress wants to embrace you and with this you can chase your dreams”, Roy Barman appealed to the youths belonging to the tribal section.
Lashing out at the ruling BJP, the Congress MLA claimed that if the saffron party continues to remain in power, in no days the state will be destroyed.
The Congress leadership also announced to organize movements and protests across the state in view of matters related to public interest.
