Central team visits Feni riverbank at Sabroom

Sabroom, Jan 16: A five-member delegation led by Sharad Chandra, Commissioner (Flood Control) of the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, visited Sabroom in South Tripura district on Thursday.
The team assessed the initiatives taken by the central government to control erosion along the banks of the Feni River. They also reviewed the infrastructure of the water treatment plant near the Maitree Setu, focusing on the process of drawing water from the river for treatment.
The water treatment plant near the Maitree Setu was constructed as part of an agreement signed between India and Bangladesh to use Feni River water for drinking purposes.
According to sources, a meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint River Commission is scheduled to take place soon. This visit was part of the preparatory efforts for the upcoming meeting.
During the visit, the central team entered the Feni Riverbank through the border gate at the Gangphira area near Maitree Setu to take stock of the ground situation and assess the practical challenges.
