Agartala, Jan 16: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Thursday said the state recorded the lowest crime of the last 10 years in 2024.
Giving details, he also claimed that the state had witnessed a decline of 19.3 percent in crime rate in 2024, as compared to the previous year.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the Tripura Police Week- 2025 celebration at AD Nagar police line, Agartala.
He also mentioned the peaceful Lok Sabha and Panchayat elections and lauded the Tripura Police’s role in this achievement.
The Chief Minister also elaborated the government’s plans to modernize and further strengthen the police force.
He announced that the state government would introduce new technologies, including AI-based control rooms, drone technology and smart CCTVs at the district and state levels.
“Tripura Police is a pride for us. Last year, we celebrated 150 years of Tripura Police, one of the oldest forces in the country. The police provide us with protection, from safeguarding lives to securing property. When people are in distress and helpless, they turn to the police. We must work with honesty and strive to earn the faith of the people,” Dr. Saha said.
Dr. Saha also expressed gratitude to banks for extending help to the families of martyred police personnel.
Dr. Saha, who also serves as the Home Minister of the state, noted that in 2024, property-related crimes decreased by 45%, crimes related to physical assault dropped by 38%, riot-related cases declined by 75%, and crimes against women decreased by 55%.
“Tripura is now on the path of progress and development. The tireless efforts of Tripura Police are reflected in these figures. A significant number of NLFT cadres have surrendered, making Tripura insurgency-free. Tripura Police is actively combating the drug menace. In the past three years, 1,666 NDPS-related cases were registered, and 3,079 persons were arrested. In 2024, drugs worth ₹867 crore were seized, which is 106% higher than in 2023. We are taking strict action against illegal infiltration and have acted against Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators entering Tripura,” said Dr. Saha.
He further informed that Tripura Police and Tripura State Rifles have organized over 25,000 social work initiatives in the last three years, benefiting more than 5 lakh people. The government has also increased ration allowances, DA, and uniform allowances.
He also said, new police headquarters is being set up, and plans are underway to modernize East and West Agartala Police Stations.
During the event, Dr. Saha presented awards in various categories including Lifetime Achiever Award of Tripura Police to Kajal Ghosh, Retired Inspector, Best Investigator of the Year Sanjay Majumder, SI, North District, Policeman of the Year Dhurba Nath, Additional SP, West (Rural), Best Police Station for Technology Use New Capital Complex Police Station, Best Police Station for Beat System Kamalpur Police Station, Dhalai District, Best Police Station is Birganj PS, Gomati District, and Damcherra PS, North District, Best District for Beat System is Dhalai District, Best Unit for Technology Use is KTDS Police Training Academy, Narsingarh, Tripura, Best TSR Battalion is 3rd Battalion TSR, Best District is Gomati District, Best Clerical Staff from TSR Battalions is Nb/Sub (Clerk) Bipul Karjee, 7th Battalion TSR, Best Clerical Staff from Civil Police Units is Uttam Biswas, Head Clerk-Cum-Accountant, SB Organization.

Their remarkable display of bravery, valour, and determination left everyone in awe. They showcased an indomitable spirit. They have stolen the show as shining examples of women empowerment.
