Agartala Oct 31: Cooperative movement has added a new dimension to the rural economy as well as created earning opportunities. To harness the effects of the cooperative movement, it is important to bolster the LAMPS, PACS and weaker cooperatives, said ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday.
Chowdhury chaired a preparatory meeting at the conference hall of Tripura State Cooperative Union at Arundhutinagar today. The preparatory meeting was held in connection with the observance of the weeklong 69th All India Cooperatives Week. The observance events will start on November 14 and will continue till November 20 next.
Among others, MLA Krishnadhan Das, Sabhadhipati of West district Zila Parishad, chairman of Tripura State Co-operative Union Ranajoy Kumar Deb, Controller of the Cooperatives Department S Mog, Joint Controller NR Chakraborty and other officials were present in the programme.
Detailing about the event schedules, NR Chakraborty said, the State-level programme will be held at AgartalaTown hall in which Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and Cooperative Minister Prem Kumar Reang will remain present.
As part of the weeklong observance, several programmes will be conducted in all the districts. Besides, seminars, tableaux, blood donation camps, sit and draw, quiz competitions etc will also be held.
Taking part in the meeting, Sushanta Chowdhury highlighted the role of the cooperatives in shaping the contour of the rural economy.
He said, “The State government has accorded priority to improve the lifestyle of all people including rural residents and to this end, Cooperatives have ushered new opportunities for economic growth and earnings”.
Chowdhury added, the Ministry of Cooperatives under the Government of India under Amit Shah is also stressing to strengthen the Cooperative movement in the country. Moreover, the Prime Minister gave a call – ‘Vocal for Local’ to give impetus to the marketing of products of entrepreneurs. All these initiatives are paying the fruit and we need to ensure that Cooperatives members of our state grab the opportunities.
Krishnadhan Das, Chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Santosh Saha, chairman of TRTC Abhijit Deb and others also took part in the discussion.
