Amarpur, March 03: The CRPF along with the locals of Amarpur subdivision on Monday paid tribute to the 11 jawans and two jeep drivers, who were martyred in 2001 militant ambush at New Bampur road of Teliamura main road in Amarpur under the then South Tripura district and now Gomti district's Amarpur sub-division.
On March, 2001, Sub Inspector Ganesh Prasad, Head Constable Sahdev Chowdhury, Jagdish Mondal, Naik Ganga Singh, Constable Ramanand Yadav, Pawan Kumar Singh, Subhas Chand, Mahavir Singh, Pritam Singh, Mahesh Kumar Malakar, Chandra H.R. along with the drivers of their jeep – Kamal Das and Narayan Debnath were killed in an ambush by militants while going on duty.
After the incident, the militants looted the tools and other belongings of the jawans. The incident triggered panic among the locals of Amarpur subdivision.
Like every year, this year too, the local villagers along with CRPF jawans paid tribute to the martyred jawans and jeep drivers at New Bampur road on Monday. Commandant of CRPF 124th Battalion Raveesh Kumar, (GC) Commandant of CRPF Pravat Kumar, Deputy Commandant of 124th Battalion CRPF A K Tripathi, Amarpur Divisional Police Officer Debanjali Roy, and others joined the tribute paying ceremony programme.
