Gandacherra Jan 10: In a disheartening incident, miscreants vandalized the agricultural land of eight to ten farmers in the Bish Card area of Haripur late on Thursday night. The targeted destruction has resulted in significant damage to winter crops including chilli, tomato, cauliflower, and cabbage.
Learning about the incident Chandan Kumar Reang, Superintendent, Gandacherra Agriculture Department, SDPO Sougata Chakma, OC Gandacherra PS Asim Sarkar along with others reached the scene on Friday morning to assess the damage and ensured necessary support to the affected farmers.
Superintendent Chandra Kumar Reang acknowledged that this is not the first occurrence; two years ago, similar acts of vandalism had caused extensive damage to farmers' lands. Although the recent incident has resulted in relatively less damage, it remains a grave concern.
Reang assured the farmers of various forms of assistance and support from the Agriculture Department.
Additionally, the affected farmers demanded the establishment of a Special Protection Officer (SPO) camp in the Bish Card area to prevent such incidents in the future.
The police officials assured that a temporary camp would be established in the area from Friday. This measure is expected to help in creating a peaceful environment and safeguard the agricultural crops from further vandalism.
