Forest Dept foils illegal deer meat trade in surprise operation

Agartala Nov 22: Acting on a tip-off, forest Department Officials of Trishna Sanctuary, in a joint operation with Bokafa, Kakulia and Rajnagar forest departments detained an auto driver named Sunil Debnath on Friday morning in Belonia, Maicherra area, for selling deer meat illegally.
Officials of forest department recovered deer meat of around 7 kilograms inside the autorickshaw of Debnath and also found traces of blood in his auto and body parts including hands.
On the other hand, despite being caught red-handed, Sunil claimed he was not involved in selling deer meat or hunting deer.
A forest department official said, “We received a tip-off from sources and accordingly apprehended Sunil Debnath, red-handed. He was selling deer meat illegally for Rs 2,000 per kilogram”.
After proper interrogation, action will be taken against the accused as per law, said the officials.
