Kumarghat, Oct 30: Former Tripura minister Sunil Chandra Das, a senior Congress leader, passed away at the age of 83 after battling a long illness. He breathed his last at his home in Kumarghat on Monday. 

He began his political career in the left-wing student movement, later joined the National Congress party. In 1988, he won from the Fatikroy constituency and became a minister. His contributions to the Sub-division.

However, Das joined the BJP before 2018 State Assembly elections, later returned back to Congress. 

At the time of his death, he was the leader of the Congress party. His demise is mourned by political leaders and the community. 

He is survived by his wife, son, daughter, daughter-in-law and other relatives. 

Tripura Police honored him with a guard of honor, and his last rites were conducted in Kumarghat. 

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and other leaders including Minister Sudhangshu Das, MLA Bhagaban Das and others expressed their condolences.
