Dr. Manik Saha emphasized that a robust legal system is essential for a thriving democracy. “I am honored to have witnessed this occasion. The foundation stone was laid by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in 2022. At that time, I visited this place and saw many people who extended their hands to start this memorable journey. I believe this National Law University and today’s event mark a historic milestone in the journey of legal education in Tripura, with the ground-breaking of the permanent campus of National Law University Tripura,” said Dr. Saha.
Dr. Saha also stated that the establishment of NLU reflects the state government’s commitment to excellence in legal education, research, and policy-making. “I think we should not limit ourselves to just one law university; research should also be carried out so that the university’s standard can be elevated, and people become aware of it. As far as policy-making is concerned, we are here and will always be available to support you. As one of the premier institutes of legal education, NLU will expressively contribute to producing skilled legal professionals, judges, and policymakers,” he added. He further assured that the state government will continue to provide financial, administrative, and policy support to help the university achieve its goals.
Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh emphasized on the university’s transformative potential, calling it a momentous achievement for the state. “NLU Tripura has kicked off in a remarkable fashion and this ground breaking event is going to mark a major development in infrastructure, ensuring better facilities for students,” he remarked. “The university is already growing at a wonderful rate with full occupancy. Students from far and wide have come to study here, and within just one and a half to two years of its establishment, parents have shown immense trust in this institute. They recognize its potential to become a hub of legal skill development for the entire Northeast,” he added.
Justice Singh further elaborated on the judiciary's role in shaping legal education, stating, “The establishment of this university is a testament to our collective commitment towards strengthening the legal fabric of the state. We envision NLU Tripura as not just an institution, but a hub that will cultivate critical legal minds, foster research, and promote a culture of justice.” Singh also stressed the importance of a strong legal foundation in ensuring social equity and justice. “Legal education is not just for law students; it is for society at large. A well-informed legal community contributes to a just and progressive state,” he added.
