Agartala Nov 30: After residents of Tripura staged a protest in front of Tripura’s multispecialty private hospital, ILS, Agartala, on Saturday, expressing their indignation over the insult of the Indian national flag in Bangladesh, the hospital authorities suspended all sort of treatment facilities meant for patients from neighbouring Bangladesh.

In response to the protesters' major demand of ‘Stop medical services to Bangladeshi Patients’,  Gautam Hazarika, representing ILS Hospital, assured that medical services to Bangladeshi citizens would no longer be provided.

He noted that Bangladeshi patients had already ceased to arrive for several days prior to this assurance. Furthermore, the help desk established to assist Bangladeshi patients at ILS Hospital was closed from Saturday onwards.

Notably, numerous patients from Bangladesh seek medical services in the state daily. This facility, which has been crucial for many Bangladeshi patients, is now at risk of closure due to the actions of a few individuals.

The prolonged protest inside the hospital disrupted services and caused difficulties for patients and their caregivers.

Speaking to the reporters, one of the protesters said, “The protest underscores the strong sentiments of the state's residents towards national pride and the respect for the Indian flag. The hospital authorities must immediately stop providing medical facilities to the patients coming from that country”.

However, the decision to cease medical services for Bangladeshi patients at ILS Hospital highlights the complex interplay between national sentiments and humanitarian services.
