Agartala, May 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked National Technology Day on Thursday by holding a virtual discussion with students from the Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) project across the country. The project, which was launched in 10,000 schools in India, aims to train students in remote areas and empower school girls to operate sophisticated machines in the future.
In Tripura, 34 schools are associated with the ATL project, including Mungiakami HS+2 School in the Khowai district. The project was launched by India's policy think-tank, Niti Aayog, in 2019 and later introduced at Mungiakami HS+2 School in Teliamura sub-division in September 2021.
To celebrate National Technology Day, all students of Mungiakami HS+2 School were given the opportunity to participate in the virtual webcast with the Prime Minister. Manoj Debbarma, the headmaster of the school, said that under the supervision of the teacher in charge of ATL, the students have created various projects, including drone flying, robotics engineering, and 3D printing. The projects were uploaded to a YouTube channel.
The efforts of the students and teachers at Mungiakami HS+2 School were recognized by the state government, which awarded the school the title of "Best School in the State for Information & Technology" in 2022. The school is a shining example of the ATL project's success in bringing technological education to remote and disadvantaged areas of India – and also of the State.
