Agartala Sept 05: Voting for by-polls across two assembly seats in Tripura’s Sepahijala district began on Tuesday morning.
However, at some booths in Boxanagar assembly seat, the process started 30 minutes late after EVM malfunction was reported as the cause.
Centering the election, adequate security arrangements have been made in the assembly constituencies in a bid to tackle any sort of untoward incident.
BJP candidate for Boxanagar seat, Taffajal Hossain who already tasted the flavour of defeat in the 2023 assembly polls from the same seat is once again contesting against CPI-M candidate Mizan Hossain, son of the former legislature Late Shamshul Haque.
Taffajal Hossain was spotted standing in the long queue of common voters on Tuesday morning to caste his vote at Booth No. 14 under Boxanagar assembly constituency.
Speaking to the reporters, the BJP candidate said, “People are voting in a festive mood. Everything is peaceful here and no untoward incident has been reported”.
On being asked about the allegations of being involved in the attack on CPI-M cadre Abu Zafar on last Monday night, Taffajal Hossain said, “This is completely false and baseless. The CPI-M miscreants always have a tendency to create ruckus and disrupt the peace and harmony. This is nothing but a cooked up story to malign the image of BJP”.
The BJP candidate further hoped of winning the seat with majority of votes adding that, “People will vote for BJP on the basis of developmental works done till date”.
The Boxanagar assembly seat comprises 66 per cent minority voters among a total of 43,087 electors.
