According to tithi, Saraswati Puja, will be observed this year on February 2nd and 3rd, corresponding to the 19th and 20th of the Bengali month of Magh. The village of Rajnagar in Fatikray, located in the Unakoti district, is a focal point of this festive preparation.
Biplab Rudra Pal, a local artisan, shared that the construction of idols is in full swing, with work continuing day and night. This year, Biplab has crafted approximately 60 idols, both small and large, with the assistance of his two brothers and two workers who have been dedicated to this task for the past month.
Another artisan from the area, Dinabandhu Rudra Pal, who has been in the profession for forty years, expressed that the current market conditions and increased competition have affected profitability.
Despite these challenges, Dinabandhu has created a total of 35 idols this year, ranging in price from Rs 5,000- 800.
