Sonamura, March 18: The Community Health Centre (CHC) at Sonamura subdivision, which is presently run by only three doctors, is reeling under acute crisis to paralyse the medical services.   

Earlier the CHC was run by four doctors, which according to the patient parties and the concerned authority was not enough to tackle the patient rush. Recently one of the four doctors identified as Dr Anindita Karmakar was posted at Gandhigram Primary Health centre in West Tripura district on deputation, following which the figure of total doctor in the CHC rested at only three.

Reportedly, the in-charge doctor of the CHC has written a letter to his higher authority and demanded for at least 2 more doctors in addition to the existing three. In view of the patients’ rush, the concerned authority is finding difficulties in running the CHC with only three doctors.  

The CHC registered at least 34579 OPD patients and 21000 emergency patients from April 2023 to February 2024. Patients from the neighbouring areas including Dhanpur, Kamalnagar, Matinagar and other health centers also take services from the Sonamura CHC.  

The officer in-charge of the CHC however sought the intervention of the state health department to deploy more doctors in the hospital in view of the Lok Sabha election and other major issues being faced by the hospital staff and the existing doctors in tackling the patients’ rush.
