Agartala July 4: A proposal for regularly conducting skill Development programmes for the media persons in association with a Bhopal-based Journalism and Mass Communication Institute was placed during the media workshop for Print media that commenced at SIPARD in Agartala on Monday. The workshop has been organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) Department with assistance from SIPARD.
Vice-Chancellor of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Mass Communication of Bhopal, KG Suresh mooted the proposal for signing an MoU with the ICA for conducting skill development programmes of the media persons on regular basis. KG Suresh claimed that the University is the largest Mass Communication Institute in Asia. The officials of the ICA lauded the proposal and said they would look into the matter.
The workshop will be held in three phases. On July 4 and 5, the workshop for skill enhancement will be organised for the print media persons while for the electronic media persons, the second phase of the workshop will be organised on July 11 and 12. Finally, for Web media persons, the workshop will be conducted on July 14 and 15 next.
ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated the two-day workshop for print media on Monday. In his inaugural speech, Chowdhury termed journalism a noble profession. He urged the media persons to shoulder the responsibility of making this profession more dignified. The Minister also said the incumbent Government is media-friendly and has already taken a crucial decision relating to bringing the media persons under the Health Insurance up to Rs 3 lakh.
“There is a scope for correction in case of Electronic and web media – however, no such scope is available for print media. So, it is pertinent to make news after proper verification”, Chowdhury said and urged the media persons to make news with a positive mindset.
In the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor of Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Professor Baldeo Bhai Sharma discussed different aspects of media and urged to work for public awakening.
KG Suresh said even as digital media is playing a big role, people still rely on print media as it can be preserved. For this reason, writings on print media require a lot of thinking.
Speaking on the occasion, Executive Editor of Tripura Times, Manas Pal discussed changing nature of the media. ”In view of fast-changing media-scape, we all need to prepare ourselves accordingly”, he opined.
Director of ICA Ratan Biswas highlighted activities of the department for the improvement and welfare of the media persons.
After the inaugural session, the seminar started in which Prof Baldeo Bhai Sharma talked on ‘Role of media on Governmental Schemes and Flagship programmes’. Veteran journalist of the State Shekhar Datta discussed ‘New Challenges of Journalism and KG Suresh spoke on ‘Ethics and Morality in Journalism’.
