Minister of Information and Cultural Affairs, Sushanta Chwdhury inaugurated the program in presence of West Tripura district president Antara Deb Sarkar and other officials of the department.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is observed on December 3 every year with an aim to spread awareness about the rights and well-being of people with disabilities. It also aims to raise awareness about the political, social and economic discrepancies faced by persons with disabilities.
The theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, this year, is “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world “.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Sushanta Chowdhury said, “The day is crucial as it highlights the unequal opportunities, discrimination and lack of empathy that persons with disabilities have to contend with every other day”.
“The BJP-led state government has taken up several steps to ensure the welfare of the Divyangjans. Providing them with various aids like Tricycles, Wheel Chair, social pension and many more is to see that they feel equally treated like commoners”, he added.
The Minister further praised the arts and articrafts designed by the people with disabilities that were displayed at the program.
