Agartala, May 15: The state committee of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) on Wednesday expressed concern over the ‘inadequate’ medical facilities in the state’s only referral GBP Hospital and sought the intervention of the Medical Superintendent of the hospital for improvement and upgradation of the medical service.
Pressing for a 10-point charter of demands with the medical superintendent in a deputation on Wednesday, the SUCI(C) in its press communique stated that the GBP hospital has failed to meet the medical requirement of the patients of the state. The deputation was led by the SUCI(C) state secretary Subrata Chakraborty and others.
“Patients sustaining serious injury are left untreated for hours in the hospital due to the lack of proper and urgent medical care. Due to the unavailability of specialist doctors, nurses and ward boys round the clock in the wards, healthcare is disrupted. In addition to medical services in various sections, drinking water, electricity services are inadequate. There is no provision of water and regular cleaning of the toilets. As a result, the people of the state lost their trust and dependency on this hospital and are being forced to go abroad for better treatment,” SUCI(C) stated.
The 10 point charter of demands include – Ensuring 24 hours special doctors, nurses and ward boys in all departments, ensuring life-sustaining medicines for the patients, ensuring 24 hours operation of CT scan machines in the trauma centre, arrangements for all types of examinations and timely reporting, ensuring clean drinking water and adequate power supply and others.
