Agartala, Feb 06: Minister for Industries and Commerce Santana Chakma on Thursday announced that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha would launch ‘Skill- Uday Tongnai’, a skill development programme, at Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) on Friday.
Addressing a press conference, she also shared the details regarding a two-day business conclave to be held in Agartala on February 7-8.
Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte, Director Viswashree B., and Director of Skill Development Muhammad Sajad were also present in the press conference held at the secretariat.
The Directorate of Skill Development is conducting the launch of ‘Skill-Uday Tongnai’, a pioneering skill programme designed to empower 80,000 school and college-going students across Tripura. This landmark initiative is a testament to the state government’s unwavering commitment to equipping its youth with industry-relevant skills, fostering employability, and promoting entrepreneurship, Chakma said.
She also said, ‘Skill-Uday Tongnai’ is a unique phrase blending English, Bengali, and Kokborok, symbolizing the dawn of a new era in skill development.
"Skill" represents the empowerment of individuals, "Uday" (meaning "rise" in Bengali) signifies a fresh beginning, and "Tongnai" (Kokborok for "inauguration") marks the launch of new opportunities for the youth of Tripura.
Chakma further said, under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme, a Career Guidance Programme will support 75,000 girl students across 983 schools, enabling them to make informed career choices and break barriers in various fields.
Recognizing the need for specialized skill training, 7,000 students will receive industry-specific training in GST, Income Tax Filing, Cyber Security, Web Designing, 2D Animation, and more under the Mukhya Mantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa (MMDUP), in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation Academy (NSDC Academy).
Besides, in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Management & Entrepreneurship and Professional Sector Skill Council (MEPSC), the EEE Programme, implemented through the centrally funded SANKALP scheme, will train 1,600 students in communication, employability, and entrepreneurship skills across all degree colleges in Tripura, she noted.
In the digital era, real-time data and transparency are critical. The Skill Tripura MIS Portal, developed under MMDUP, will serve as a centralized database for skill development initiatives, linking job seekers with training programs and enabling direct course applications.
The Industries and Commerce Minister also elaborated other benefits under the new initiative.
She also said, over 100 entrepreneurs and industrialists would participate in the two-day Business Conclave. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha would attend the event on the second day, February 8.
The two-day business conclave would focus on areas like IT, healthcare, education, tourism, and skill development. The main objective of this conclave is to showcase Tripura's potential as a prime investment destination in Northeast India. It also aims to highlight employment opportunities, encourage local industries, and showcase the state's natural resources and industry-friendly policies.
The Industries and Commerce Minister stated that this conclave would provide a platform for investors to connect with policymakers. Such initiatives aim to attract the youth towards industries and promote self-reliance.
