STRANGE INTERPRETATION OF "LIBERATION"!
KAJAL CHATTERJEE
So the epidemic of "Second liberation" has made its grand entry from Bangladesh to infect India as well!
While the "second liberation" of Bangladesh had come around mid-2024 with barbaric physical demolition of the busts of Bangabandhu Mujibur Rahman, cold-blooded destruction of secular Bengali legacy and fatal assaults upon minority Hindus; we have been "belatedly" enlightened by a saffron heavyweight in January 2025 that India had also attained "true Independence" only on 22nd January 2024 following the consecration of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya (which got ensured through the riot-invoking Rath on the lead, culminating in illegal demolition of a religious site and thereafter building the temple right at that very spot just because the Hindus "believed" it to be of the "birthplace" of an epic hero)!
Despite apparent "bad blood" hitting Indo-Bangladesh relationship; but the fact remains that the dominant camp in the neighboring nations are "umbilically" attached to each other when it comes to religious muscle-flexing, hating fellow citizens of the "Other" vintage, making a mockery of all norms of Constitution and rewriting of history including even the day of actual independence also, thereby belittling the unfathomable struggle and sacrifices of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Mahatma Gandhi Jawaharlal Nehru Subhas Chandra Bose to name just a few!
Then comes the "liberation" of the tribal population in India!
Following the branding of 22nd January 2024 as "true Independence" day, the very same saffron heavyweight arrives with another "enlightening" claim - - portraying the epitome of secularism and liberalism Pranab Mukherjee in saffron colours!
So by taking advantage of Mukherjee's inability to defend himself as he has passed away nearly 5 years ago, he speaks of the former's praise in favour of "Reconversions" (that zealously stressed "ghar-wapsi" programme) with the following alleged assertion that 30% of the tribals would have turned into "anti-national" had they embraced Christianity!
According to him, this conversation with Mukherjee happened when the latter was serving as President of India.
However in 2018 when Mukherjee had attended a RSS function at Nagpur as ex-President and indirectly condemned the current dominant force practicing intolerance and hatred in crudest manner possible with sole emphasis on a particular religion and thereafter boldly batted for pluralism and secularism; on that very forum the very same person had claimed that “Mukherjee will remain what he is and the Sangh will remain the Sangh even after the event”!
If the ex-President had indeed praised the saffron initiative of "Reconversions", why did he concluded his speech with that particular statement clearly transmitting the message that Pranab Mukherjee and Sangh ideology will never meet!
However, Catholic Bishops Conference in India should be specially thanked for calling the bluff of Mohan Bhagwat emitting ridiculous baseless unproven dialogues and instead awarding greater confidence upon the proven impeccable secular credentials of late Pranab Mukherjee.
Further West, the High Court of Pakistan holds every right to dismiss a plea seeking renaming of Lahore's Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh; but the reason offered behind such dismissal is bizarre to say the least.
How can Bhagat Singh be dubbed as a "Criminal", not a revolutionary!
What was Singh's "crime" - - fighting for the independence of India! Wasn't the modern day Pakistan part of that very India as well for the independence of which, Bhagat Singh laid down his life in mere 23 years of age (right at Lahore only) when the well-read man could have selfishly made a successful care of his own! Even if the concerned judge doesn't find himself indebted to Bhagat Singh for his selfless valiant fight against British imperialism; at least he should have refrained from dubbing him a "criminal", the fruits of whose sacrifice has also contributed in Independence of the erstwhile United India!
However, we must not equate the Pakistan High court or the concerned judge with the whole country itself. After all, Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation and its chairman Advocate Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi are part of Pakistan too and all well meaning persons of both the countries are thankful to them for serving the cause of the memory of the great revolutionary who took birth in the Banga village of current day Pakistani Punjab, Lahore is the capital city of which!
