Covid surge: Wearing face mask now mandatory in Tripura

Agartala, July 11: In view of the sudden spike in Covid positive cases, the state government announced that wearing of mask mandatory in public places with effect from Tuesday.
The announcement came from the health officials in a press conference on Monday followed by two important meetings—one of the Health department and another of the State Task Force under chairmanship of the Chief Secretary.
Addressing a press conference, State Surveillance Officer Dr. Deep Kumar Debbarma said some important decisions have been taken in the meetings to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
“Mass testing will commence in offices and market places at the initial stage. The situation will be reviewed after one week and decision on mass testing in the entry points will be taken later on,” Dr. Debbarma said in the press conference.
He also appealed to all to strictly follow the Covid appropriate behaviour and specially appealed to the persons with comorbidities to go for testing if they develop any symptoms.
According to Dr. Debbarma, 131 persons have been infected by Covid over the past one week and West Tripura district contributed 82 cases alone.
A 221-bed Dedicated Hospital for Covid treatment is functioning in GBP hospital where eight persons with Covid infection are admitted now, he told the reporters.
Microbiologist Dr. Tapan Majumder and officials of Revenue and Home were also present in the press conference.
Meanwhile, 22 fresh positive cases have been detected out of 309 samples tested in the past 24 hours—the positivity rate is 7.12 per cent, according to an official report.
