bjp files nominations in all 51 wards cm saha eyes stronger mandate in civic polls

Sending out a strong message ahead of the upcoming urban local body elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday completed the nomination process for all 51 wards of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), with Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha expressing confidence that the party is poised to secure an even bigger mandate than in previous elections.

The nomination papers were submitted at the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Sadar, in the presence of the Chief Minister and senior party leaders. The exercise witnessed a large turnout of BJP workers, supporters and local leaders, turning the occasion into a major mobilisation event for the ruling party.

Before the nomination process, Dr. Saha held a strategy meeting with party candidates and organisational leaders at the State Guest House, where he outlined the party's electoral approach and urged all candidates to conduct a peaceful and people-oriented campaign.

Addressing party workers and candidates, the Chief Minister asserted that the BJP would approach voters on the strength of its development record and public welfare initiatives implemented in both urban and rural areas. He said the party's primary focus remains serving people throughout the year rather than becoming active only during elections.

According to Dr. Saha, the BJP's political philosophy revolves around ensuring that government benefits and development programmes reach every section of society, particularly those at the grassroots level. He maintained that the party's organisational strength and continuous engagement with citizens have helped build public confidence.

The Chief Minister also pointed to the sizeable gathering that accompanied the candidates during nomination filing, describing it as evidence of growing public support for the BJP. He stated that the attendance reflected the enthusiasm of workers and supporters who had joined the programme voluntarily.

Projecting confidence over the party's electoral prospects, Dr. Saha said the BJP expects to perform strongly not only in Agartala but across urban local bodies in the state. Referring to the party's previous electoral performance, he said the BJP is confident of securing the numbers required to retain control of civic bodies and hopes to improve upon its earlier results.

At the same time, he called upon candidates to intensify public outreach and maintain regular interaction with residents during the campaign period. The emphasis, he said, should remain on communicating the government's achievements and responding to local concerns.

The Chief Minister also appealed for a peaceful election atmosphere and urged party functionaries to ensure that campaigning remains focused on development and public issues.

Taking aim at the opposition, Dr. Saha suggested that rival parties were grappling with internal challenges and differences. He, however, maintained that the BJP remained organisationally united and fully prepared for the electoral contest ahead.

With nominations now filed in all 51 AMC wards, the BJP has formally entered campaign mode, setting the stage for an intense electoral battle in the November 27 municipal elections. As political activity gathers pace, the ruling party is expected to place governance, infrastructure development and welfare programmes at the centre of its campaign narrative.
