
The Tripura Government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of a 24-year-old woman, identified as Manisha Das of Kathaltali in Madhuban, who was found dead at Shantiniketan Medical College, Agartala, on June 10.
According to an official order issued by the state government, Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura district, has been entrusted with conducting the inquiry. The investigation will examine all circumstances and aspects surrounding the incident to ascertain the facts leading to the woman's death.
The government has directed the District Magistrate to submit a detailed report to the Home Department within 15 days from the date of issuance of the order.
The decision to initiate a magisterial inquiry comes amid public concern over the incident. Authorities are expected to gather relevant evidence and statements as part of the investigation before submitting their findings.Ā
Meanwhile, aĀ 22-year-old girl employed at Shantiniketan Medical College in Tripura was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a room of the institution's girls hostel late Wednesday night, triggering allegations of foul play from her family.
The deceased- Manisha Das (22) was a resident of Kathaltali Madhuban area under Amtali police station. According to reports, her body was found hanging inside a room under mysterious circumstances.
Speaking to media, family members have rejected the possibility of suicide and alleged that Manisha was 'murdered'. Her mother claimed that the young girl was often 'compelled' to stay at the institution during the night.
Speaking on the matter, the college principal said that Manisha had previously worked as a caretaker and was currently employed as an assistant in the Examination Cell.
The family further alleged that Manisha may have come to know about certain confidential matters, which they believe could have led to her death. They have demanded a thorough investigation into the incident.
Following the discovery of the body, staff from the Amtali police station and a forensic team rushed to the scene. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police have launched an investigation, and the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report and other forensic findings as part of the ongoing probe.
Later, SDPO Amtali Paramita Pandey convened a media briefing and said that prima facie evidence suggested that it was a murder. āThe room in which the mortal remains were discovered was locked from inside. The hospital staff and students broke open the door. However, we are still waiting for the autopsy reports to ascertain the actual reason behind the death,ā said Pandey.Ā
According to Pandey, one person was detained shortly after for questioning. āAs per preliminary investigation, she had an altercation with one of her friends late on Wednesday night,ā added Pandey.Ā Ā
