North Tripura showcases water conservation initiatives at India International Water Week

North Tripura district showcased its water conservation initiatives at the 9th India International Water Week (IIWW) 2026 in New Delhi, highlighting the role of government, communities and the private sector in promoting sustainable water management.

North Tripura District Magistrate and Collector Chandni Chandran participated as a speaker at the Practitioners’ Forum on Best Practices held at Bharat Mandapam on Thursday.

During the session, Chandran presented three water conservation initiatives being implemented in different parts of the district.

The first was the Uttar Jal Sanchay Yatra, a district administration-led initiative aimed at strengthening water conservation efforts through local participation. 

She also highlighted the rainwater harvesting saturation initiative in Vanghmun, describing it as a community-driven effort towards achieving comprehensive rainwater harvesting coverage.

The third initiative presented was springshed management in the Jampui and Damcherra blocks, being implemented under the leadership of CML, Tata Trusts. The initiative focuses on the management and conservation of spring-based water resources in the hilly areas.

The presentation underlined the district’s convergence-based approach to water conservation, bringing together administrative interventions, community participation and private-sector support.

The district administration emphasized that sustained cooperation among the government, local communities and private-sector organisations is essential for ensuring long-term sustainability in water conservation and management.
