Tripura's traditional Neermahal Jal Utsav from Oct 7, minister reviews preparedness

The traditional Neermahal Jal Utsav 2026 will be held from October 7 to 9 at Melaghar, bringing together Tripura’s rich aquatic heritage, folk traditions, cultural practices and tourism potential around the iconic Neermahal and Rudrasagar Lake.

Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman chaired a preparatory meeting at the Melaghar Municipal Council conference hall on Thursday and reviewed various aspects of the three-day festival. 

He also issued necessary directions to ensure proper arrangements for the event.

The festival, organised annually around the historic Neermahal, is expected to feature a range of cultural and sporting activities, including performances based on Mansamangal, boat races, swimming competitions and yoga events.

According to minister Barman, the festival holds significance beyond entertainment as it reflects the close relationship between Rudrasagar’s waters, the surrounding ecosystem and the everyday life, folk culture and traditions of communities living in the region.

The event also seeks to highlight Neermahal as one of Tripura’s major tourism attractions, with the historic water palace and the picturesque Rudrasagar Lake providing the backdrop for a celebration of the state’s cultural and natural heritage.

The combination of Neermahal’s architectural beauty, the waters of Rudrasagar and Tripura’s traditional cultural expressions is expected to make this year’s festival a major attraction for visitors from within and outside the state.

Barman invited people to attend the festival with their families and experience the natural beauty of Neermahal while celebrating the heritage associated with Rudrasagar.

The Neermahal Water Festival has emerged as an annual platform to connect tourism promotion with local culture and community participation, while drawing attention to the historical importance of Rudrasagar and its surrounding areas.
