Tripura Election Commissioner reviews poll preparedness in North District; Security deployment & logistics under scrutiny

With the Village Committee elections approaching, State Election Commissioner Dr. P.K. Chakraborty, accompanied by Acting Director General of Police G.S. Rao, conducted a comprehensive review of election preparedness and security arrangements in North Tripura district on Thursday. 

The meeting, held at the District Magistrate and Collector’s Conference Hall in Dharmanagar, brought together senior officials from the district and police administrations to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.

The review session included Returning Officers (ROs), Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), Election Observers, Sub‑Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), and the District Superintendent of Police (SP). Discussions centred on logistical readiness, movement of polling parties, dispatch and receiving centre operations, and real‑time monitoring on polling day.

Dr. Chakraborty stated that the Commission examined the district’s compliance with election directives, including security coverage, awareness drives, and post‑poll return arrangements. He expressed satisfaction with the preparations and said the Commission was confident of conducting a peaceful and fair election.

The police administration briefed the Commission on the deployment of forces, area domination exercises, and communication networks. Dr. Chakraborty confirmed that central forces are already on duty, conducting patrols and maintaining vigilance across sensitive zones.

Acting DGP G.S. Rao noted that while arrangements were satisfactory, certain challenges remain in interior and hilly areas of North Tripura, where poor road conditions and weak mobile connectivity could affect operations during heavy rain. He said the department has taken steps to mitigate these issues.

Rao revealed that 74 companies of central paramilitary forces—including CRPF, CAPF, BSF, SSB, and ITBP—have been deployed across the state, with 12.5 companies assigned to North Tripura. These forces are already conducting area domination patrols, and their presence will continue through the counting phase to ensure security and transparency.

Officials emphasised that the arrangements are being closely monitored to prevent disruptions and maintain public confidence in the electoral process. The coordination between the State Election Commission and the Police Department marks a crucial step toward ensuring that the upcoming Village Committee elections are conducted smoothly across Tripura.
