Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has now become India’s longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister, has sent a personally signed commemorative letter to National Award-winning science teacher Anjan Banik of Tripura.Â
Â
The letter, dated July 02, 2026 and delivered via India Post Speed Post (ED025495761IN) on 09 July 2026, acknowledges Banik’s greetings on the historic milestone and symbolizes the Prime Minister’s engagement with grassroots educators.
Â
The milestone marks 4,399 consecutive days in office, surpassing Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of 4,398 days. Official comparative data places Modi ahead of Nehru (4,398), Indira Gandhi (4,078), Dr. Manmohan Singh (3,657), Atal Bihari Vajpayee (2,257) and Rajiv Gandhi (1,859). While Nehru remains India’s longest-serving Prime Minister overall, Modi’s uninterrupted tenure represents a constitutional landmark, reflecting democratic stability and the enduring confidence of the electorate.
Â
In his letter, Modi described his journey as a “privilege to serve Maa Bharati with devotion,” stressing that the achievement belongs not to an individual but to India’s democratic traditions and the trust of 140 crore citizens.Â
Â
He wrote, “This moment is a symbol of the abiding strength of India’s democratic traditions. It reflects the trust and blessings of 140 crore Indians. In honour of their invaluable faith reposed in me, I reaffirm that each moment of my life and every effort of mine will always remain dedicated to the nation.”Â
Â
The Prime Minister also extended “best wishes for your good health, happiness and continued success.”
Â
Reflecting on twelve years of governance, Modi highlighted progress in financial inclusion, welfare schemes, housing, electricity, gas, clean drinking water, infrastructure and digital transformation, noting India’s growing confidence on the global stage.Â
Â
He reaffirmed his commitment to Viksit Bharat 2047, pledging reforms, innovation, good governance and public participation, and expressed confidence that educators like Banik would play a significant role in this national mission.
Â
For Anjan Banik, this marks the fifth personal communication received from Modi during his tenure. Banik, an Assistant Science Teacher under Tripura’s Directorate of Secondary Education, is the only recipient from Tripura, Northeast and East India of the prestigious NCSTC National Award for Science and Technology Communication (2022–23).Â
Â
His contributions include national-level science communication across India — from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Puducherry to Punjab — authorship of NCERT science textbooks for Classes 7 and 8 with Chaya Prakashani/S Chand group, selection as National Mentor Resource Person under NCTE’s National Mission for Mentoring, and organization of major events such as the India International Sarabhai Student Scientist Award and the Sir J.C. Bose International Science Math Puppetry Film Festival, which has pioneered digitization of traditional culture for scientific learning.
Â
Expressing gratitude, Banik described the Prime Minister’s words as “an invaluable source of encouragement for every science teacher and communicator,” pledging to continue promoting scientific temper, inquiry-based learning, innovative pedagogy and teacher empowerment.Â
Â
He emphasized that the letter would inspire not only him but also students, researchers and the wider academic community in Tripura and across India.
Â
For Tripura, the occasion is seen as a matter of pride, a nationally honoured science educator from the state receiving yet another personal communication from the Prime Minister, reaffirming the vital role of teachers in shaping an informed, innovative and developed India.
