Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma has formally sought the intervention of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tarunjit Singh Sandhu, who also serves as Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), to secure land for constructing two dedicated hostels for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students from Tripura.
Â
In his meeting with the Lieutenant Governor, Debbarma submitted a D.O. Letter requesting the allotment of suitable land in the National Capital to establish a 100-seater Boys’ Hostel and a 100-seater Girls’ Hostel.Â
Â
He stressed that the initiative is designed to provide safe, affordable, and conducive residential facilities for tribal students pursuing higher education in Delhi.
Â
“The Government of Tripura remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing educational opportunities and ensuring the welfare of our tribal youth. These hostels will reduce the challenges faced by students coming from remote regions of the state, enabling them to pursue higher education with confidence and dignity,” Debbarma said.
Â
Bikash added, "The demand highlights our broader vision of empowering tribal communities through education and ensuring that students studying outside the state have access to secure and supportive living arrangements".
Â
He expressed hope that with the Lieutenant Governor’s support and positive consideration, the proposal would be implemented swiftly, benefitting generations of tribal students from Tripura.
