192 Kg of dry cannabis seized from vehicle in Agartala

In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, West Agartala Police seized a large consignment of cannabis from a vehicle during a late‑night operation in the Lake Chowmuhani area. The recovery has sparked widespread attention in the locality, underscoring the police’s intensified campaign against narcotics.

Acting on a specific intelligence tip‑off, police teams intercepted a vehicle suspected of being used for smuggling. A thorough search revealed a substantial quantity of cannabis concealed inside. The vehicle was immediately detained, and legal proceedings have been initiated against those linked to the trafficking network.

The operation was led by West Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Sanjit Sen, who confirmed that the crackdown forms part of a broader strategy to dismantle illegal drug networks operating in and around Agartala. 

"Weighing the contraband items, 192 kg of dry ganja has been recovered whose market value is approximately 96 lakh. The driver of the vehicle fled away from the spot. However, a case has been registered under specific sections of NDPS Act against the vehicle owner", said the OC.

He stated that similar drives will continue in the coming days to curb the menace of narcotics in the city.

Following the seizure, police presence in the Lake Chowmuhani area has been further strengthened to prevent any retaliatory activity or disruption. Police Officials said further details regarding the case will be shared once the investigation progresses.

Residents expressed relief at the police action, noting that the area has increasingly been under threat from drug‑related activities. Authorities emphasised that the fight against narcotics is a priority, with coordinated efforts underway to ensure public safety and restore confidence in law enforcement.
