Fulfilling poll promise, Tripura CM opens Bharat Mata Canteen cum Night Shelter House at GBP Hospital

Fulfilling a poll promise, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Wednesday inaugurated the Bharat Mata Canteen-cum-Night Shelter House at GBP Hospital, aimed at further strengthening healthcare services and providing better facilities to attendants accompanying patients.

After the inauguration, the Chief Minister inspected each room of the shelter house and enquired in detail about the infrastructure, services and facilities available there from the concerned officials.

Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, senior officials of the Health Department and others were present at the inaugural programme.

The Chief Minister said the new infrastructure has been developed at a cost of nearly Rs. 5 crore keeping in mind the convenience of family members accompanying patients admitted to the hospital.

He urged all concerned to ensure proper maintenance and security of the facility. He also stressed the need to install adequate CCTV cameras and establish a command centre for effective monitoring.

Dr. Saha also urged local elected representatives to regularly monitor whether the Bharat Mata Canteen-cum-Night Shelter House is being properly managed and operated.

The Chief Minister said around 12 shelter houses are being constructed under the Tripura Urban Livelihoods Mission (TULM). Work on 11 of them has been completed, while nine are already operational. The process of opening the remaining two shelter houses will begin shortly, he said. The total expenditure on all the shelter houses is Rs. 26.88 crore.

Highlighting various initiatives undertaken to strengthen the state's healthcare system, Saha said the foundation-laying ceremony for a 100-seat medical college in Dhalai district will be held within the next few days.

He further said trauma care and cardiac care centres are essential benchmarks of a hospital. Necessary steps have been taken to introduce these facilities in all sub-divisional and district hospitals across the state, he added.
