Srirampur-Golakpur road project to commence soon: Tinku Roy

Social Welfare, Social Education and Labour Minister Tinku Roy on Thursday morning inspected the long-neglected Srirampur-Golakpur road under the Chandipur Assembly constituency in Unakoti district, along with officials of the concerned departments.

Speaking after the inspection, Roy said the tender for the road project had been issued several years ago, but the work could not be completed. 

He alleged that negligence on the part of the contractor, coupled with obstacles created by certain politically influential individuals, had kept the project pending for a long time.

The minister said that after resolving the legal complications, the state government has once again approved the road construction work and the project is expected to commence shortly.

He further said that the government plans to construct drains on both sides of the road to prevent waterlogging and protect the road from damage during the rainy season. Local residents have also been consulted and requested to extend the necessary cooperation for the project.

Residents of the area expressed hope that the long-standing hardship faced by commuters would soon come to an end and that the road construction would be completed at the earliest.
