Udaipur, May 10: The Gomati district hospital in Udaipur has been reportedly facing several shortcomings, including shortage of doctors in the Medicine unit and medical infrastructure.
The hospital’s CT scan service has remained non-functional for the past seven days. Family members of patients claimed that the absence of the facility is affecting proper treatment and delaying medical care.
Several complaints have also surfaced regarding the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Sources in the hospital alleged that the air conditioners inside the ICU have remained out of order for a long time.
Relatives of patients further alleged that there is no dedicated bathroom facility for patients inside the ICU, compelling critically ill patients to use washrooms located in other wards. They also claimed that a bathroom inside the ICU is being used by nursing staff.
Further allegations were made against the ICU administration that the nurse in-charge of the ward does not attend duty on Sundays and often behaves rudely with patients and attendants.
The complaints have raised questions over the quality of healthcare services in one of the most important hospitals of the district, despite the institution reportedly receiving recognition and awards from the Central government on multiple occasions.
The hospital is also facing an acute shortage of doctors in the Medicine Department. At present, only two doctors — Dr. Nagendra Chandra Das and Dr. Abir Bhowmik — are handling the department. The heavy rush in the outpatient department on Mondays and Thursdays puts immense pressure on the two physicians.
Hospital sources said there were earlier three doctors in the department, but one of them was transferred to Agartala and no replacement has been given so far.
