
A routine school commute turned tragic on Friday morning when a high-speed tomtom vehicle carrying students overturned after the driver lost control while trying to avoid a stray dog. The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. near Kurta tree area on National Highway-8, under Churaibari police station in North Tripura.

The vehicle, bearing registration number TR05A-2234, was transporting students from Khasiapunji, Assam to Osen Hat English Medium School in Churaibari. Eyewitnesses said the driver swerved suddenly to avoid hitting the dog, causing the tomtom to topple on the road.

Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted police and fire service personnel. The injured students were immediately taken to Kadamtala Social Hospital for first aid. Later, they were shifted to Makunda Leprosy General Hospital in Assam for advanced treatment. Doctors confirmed that three of the seven injured students are in critical condition.

The incident has sparked concern among parents and residents about the safety of school transport in the region. Despite repeated appeals for stricter monitoring of high-speed vehicles on highways, accidents involving schoolchildren continue to raise alarm.

Authorities have assured that an investigation is underway, while community members are demanding stronger enforcement of traffic rules and safer transport arrangements for students.
