
A parliamentary delegation from India, led by MP and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, is on an official visit to Bhutan.Â
The delegation, representing the India-Bhutan Friendship Group, held discussions today with Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to further enhance the overall relationship between the two countries. The delegation also includes Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh.
Expressing hope about the visit, Deb stated that regular dialogue and exchanges between the two nations will strengthen bilateral ties.Â
He added that the parliamentary discussions will advance ongoing cooperation and reinforce the existing friendly relationship between India and Bhutan.Â
In a gesture of goodwill, Deb also extended an invitation to the Bhutanese delegation to visit India. If accepted, the Bhutanese Prime Minister and King may visit India during the upcoming parliamentary session.
Deb also conveyed his heartfelt thanks to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for granting him the honor of leading the India-Bhutan Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Notably, Biplab Kumar Deb is the first Indian parliamentarian to lead such a delegation on an official visit abroad since the establishment of various parliamentary friendship groups in India nearly three months ago.Â
The visit reflects India’s commitment to a close partnership with Bhutan and highlights the importance of a multifaceted relationship between the two nations. Deb expressed sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended by Bhutan during the visit.
