Mayor reviews infrastructure to address waterlogging, drinking water issues in Agartala

Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder on Saturday conducted an on-site inspection of several proposed infrastructure projects aimed at permanently resolving long-standing drinking water shortages and waterlogging problems near Bani Vidyapith Higher Secondary Girls’ School in Agartala.

Senior officials and engineers from the Public Works (Drinking Water and Sanitation) department were present during the inspection.

During the visit, Majumder reviewed the site earmarked for the construction of the proposed Ward No. 16 office adjacent to Bani Vidyapith School.

Addressing the persistent drinking water crisis affecting areas surrounding the 7-Ramnagar Assembly constituency, Majumder, the local MLA, said a major infrastructure initiative has been planned on the school premises.

The project includes the construction of a large overhead water reservoir tank along with a water treatment facility to ensure a reliable supply of potable water to residents.

He assessed the progress and feasibility of the proposed mega project during the field visit.

The Mayor also inspected work related to a floodwater drainage pump house being developed near Bani Vidyapith School.

He said the municipal corporation is giving special priority to mitigating waterlogging in Agartala during the monsoon season, with drainage infrastructure remaining a key focus area.
