In a bid to modernize early childhood education and make it more future-ready, the Tripura Government has announced the conversion of ten Anganwadi centres in South Tripura district into English-medium institutions. The initiative is being jointly undertaken by the Department of Social Welfare and the School Education Department.
Â
Officials confirmed that the decision has been finalized and preparations are moving swiftly. Teachers selected for these centres have already undergone a one-day training programme to adapt to the new medium of instruction. Only centres with graduate-level teachers are being included in the first phase.
Â
The ten centres identified for conversion are spread across several blocks: two in Rupaicherra, one each in Jolaibari, Satchand, Hrishyamukh, Sabroom Nagar Panchayat, and Raj Nagar, two in Belonia town, and one under the Bokafa ICDS project.
Â
The newly transformed centres are expected to begin functioning in June, marking a significant step in Tripura’s education reforms. Authorities believe the move will give children in rural areas an early foundation in English, helping them compete more effectively in higher education and professional fields.
Â
The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to modernizing primary education and ensuring that children from all backgrounds have access to globally relevant learning opportunities.
