Minister Sudhangshu Das highlights Tribal Empowerment through Livestock and Fisheries

A state‑level workshop and kit distribution programme under the Tripura Rural Economic Growth and Service Delivery Project (TRESP) was inaugurated on Thursday at Pragna Bhavan, Agartala by Sudhangshu Das, Minister for Animal Resource Development, Fisheries, and SC Welfare. The event also marked the official launch of the department’s new logo.

Speaking to reporters, Minister Das underscored the government’s commitment to making tribal communities economically self‑reliant. He explained that TRESP, introduced two years ago with World Bank funding in an 80:20 ratio, is designed to form Producer Groups (PGs) of 20–30 women, drawn largely from self‑help groups. These PGs receive training through “master trainers” known locally as Pashu Sakhis and Matsya Sakhis, who guide members in areas such as piggery, poultry, and other allied activities. Financial support is extended through TRLM, enabling women to pursue livelihoods and strengthen household incomes.

Das emphasized that Tripura has high demand for meat, milk, and eggs, and boosting production while uplifting tribal households is a dual priority. He contrasted the current government’s initiatives with earlier administrations, stating that the BJP‑led government is actively working for tribal welfare through projects like TRESP.

The Minister revealed that the World Bank has sanctioned over Rs 1,200 crore, with the state contributing an additional Rs 200 crore. He described TRESP as one of the flagship projects for development in ADC areas, aimed at both economic empowerment and service delivery.

The day’s workshop included sessions on value‑added product development, training PG members on how to enhance market prices through processing and branding. Technical training was also provided, and kits were distributed to Pashu Sakhis to strengthen grassroots extension work.

In addition, Das announced the launch of the “Bharat Sanjivani” mobile app, designed to fast‑track access to Mobile Veterinary Units (MVU) under the Animal Resource Development Department. The app will allow citizens to request veterinary services more efficiently, expanding reach across rural areas.

With TRESP and allied schemes, Tripura is positioning itself as a model for community‑driven rural development, combining financial empowerment, skill training, and modern service delivery to uplift tribal and marginalized communities.
