Tripura Governor suggests setting up Tea Incubation Lab

Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu on Thursday inaugurated the International Tea Day celebration programme at the College of Agriculture, Lembucherra.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that Tripura has secured a significant position in tea production as well as quality.

He stressed that along with increasing production, Tripura tea should be branded as ‘clean, green and pure’ to strengthen its identity in national and international markets.

Highlighting the contribution of small tea growers, the Governor described them as the backbone of the tea industry in the state. He also spoke about various welfare and development schemes being implemented by the Central and State governments for the upliftment of tea workers.

The Governor further suggested establishing Tea Incubation Lab at the Tea Board and the College of Agriculture to promote research and innovation in areas such as quality enhancement, tea processing and value addition of tea produced in Tripura.

Speaking at the programme, chairman of Tea Development Corporation Samir Ranjan Ghosh highlighted several welfare initiatives undertaken by the state government for tea workers.

Principal of the College of Agriculture, Prof. (Dr.) Debasish Sen, also addressed the gathering, while the welcome speech was delivered by Arunita Phukan Yadav, working director of the Tea Board of India.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Rajesh Kumar Das, managing director of Tripura Tea Development Corporation. Tea workers and students were present at the event.
