Over 600 bottles Eskuf syrup seized in Teliamura

 In a major anti-narcotics operation, Teliamura police seized a large quantity of banned “Eskuf” cough syrup from an abandoned vehicle during a late-night operation, triggering concern in the area. Police estimated the market value of the seized contraband at over Rs 4 lakh.

According to police sources, the operation was carried out late on Wednesday night as part of an intensified drive against drug trafficking. 

A mobile patrol team led by Sub-Inspector Sampa Das was conducting routine checks and surveillance in the Maharani Pur area under Teliamura police station.

During the patrol, police noticed a suspicious Eco vehicle bearing registration number TR01-BV-0637 parked in an abandoned condition along the roadside. Finding the circumstances suspicious, officers immediately detained the vehicle and carried out a thorough search.

During the search, police recovered a large quantity of “Eskuf” cough syrup, with the number of seized bottles reportedly exceeding 600.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the consignment was being transported illegally for trafficking purposes. Codeine phosphate-based cough syrups such as Eskuf are often alleged to be misused as intoxicants, and authorities have placed strict restrictions on their circulation and misuse.

However, the vehicle’s driver and owner remain absconding following the incident. Police have launched a search operation to trace those involved and are also investigating the ownership details of the seized vehicle.

Meanwhile, concerns over drug trafficking activities in and around Teliamura have remained a matter of public discussion for some time, with repeated calls for stronger enforcement against organised narcotics networks targeting local youth.

A specific case has been registered at Teliamura Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is in progress.
