Mohila Morcha holds protest seeking punishment for former minister's son

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha on Friday staged a protest rally here in Kakraban demanding exemplary punishment for Rupayan Bhowmik, son of former minister and CPIM leader Ratan Bhowmik, who has been accused of raping, torturing, and threatening an 11-year-old minor girl.

Led by BJP Tripura Pradesh Mahila Morcha state president Mimi Majumder, Gomati district president Sabita Nag, district Mahila Morcha president Shukla Majumder, and Kakraban Panchayat Samiti chairperson Supriya Saha, hundreds of women and party workers marched through key routes of the area raising slogans against the accused.

Addressing the rally, Majumder condemned the incident and stated that everyone must unite across party lines to protect the dignity of women and fight against injustice. She added that the accused person’s family background would not shield him from legal action, and the Mahila Morcha would continue its struggle to ensure speedy justice for the victim and the strictest punishment for the accused.

According to sources, the incident occurred in Gujarat where Bhowmik stays for work purposes. The trial of the case is, reportedly, underway.
