
The Tripura government has decided to continue its paddy procurement drive at Minimum Support Price (MSP) to benefit the local farmers.
Minister for Agriculture Ratanlal Nath and Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Sushanta Chowdhury along with the officials chaired a meeting through video conferencing from the Secretariat to review the preparedness for the initiative.
Later speaking to the media on Friday, Chowdhury announced that the state government would procure 20,710 MT paddy in this Rabi season.
As decided in the meeting, he announced, the paddy procurement drive would commence from July 10 and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha would launch the drive at Kakraban agriculture sub-division under the Gomati district.
According to Chowdhury, the state cabinet has already approved the initiative.
He said, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and active support of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the state government has been procuring paddy from the farmers two times every year.
Officials of Food and Agriculture department along with Sub Divisional Magistrates and other stakeholders joined the meeting in virtual mode from across the state.
