Severe teacher shortages in rural schools have once again ignited student unrest in Tripura. On Wednesday, the Satsangam High School in Kadamtala block, located near the Indo-Bangla border, became the epicenter of a dramatic protest as students and parents locked the school gates and staged a road blockade in heavy rain.
Â
The protest was triggered by the fact that the school’s morning section, with nearly 200 students enrolled, currently has only one teacher, Bilal Miah, to manage classes, lessons, and daily responsibilities. Parents voiced frustration, questioning how a single teacher could possibly handle such a large number of students. They said repeated complaints to the education department had yielded no results, leaving their children’s future in jeopardy.
Â
Members of the school management committee also expressed deep concern, noting that the learning environment has collapsed due to prolonged vacancies and the administration’s lack of effective action.
Â
The students made it clear that their agitation would continue until they received a written assurance of teacher appointments. Their road blockade, which lasted for hours despite torrential rain, caused widespread tension in the area.
Â
Finally, around noon, Deputy IS Abhimanyu Malakar and OSD Samir Das from the district education office arrived at the scene. After speaking with the protesting students, they assured that necessary steps would be taken within a week. Following this assurance, the blockade was lifted around 1:30 pm.
Â
The incident highlights the growing crisis of teacher shortages in rural Tripura schools, where repeated protests reflect the desperation of students and parents demanding quality education and a secure future.
