Nurses' contribution immense in health system: Tripura CM

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said that nurses play an indispensable role in strengthening the healthcare system, adding that the reputation of medical institutions is often built on the professionalism, behaviour, and efficiency of nursing staff.

Addressing a programme organized to mark International Nurses Day at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, the Chief Minister stressed the need to further strengthen public trust in the nursing profession through improved training and skill development.

He said, nurses often face both internal and external challenges while discharging their duties, and overcoming such challenges properly helps in enhancing professional experience and efficiency.

The Chief Minister stated that it is impossible to build a strong healthcare system without a robust nursing structure. Highlighting the vital role nurses play in hospitals across the state, he urged them to work with greater responsibility in their respective fields.

Referring to International Nurses Day, he said the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale is observed every year on May 12 to honour the contribution of nurses to healthcare services. Various programmes were organized yesterday, while the main event was held today at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.

Highlighting the achievements in the healthcare sector over the past few years, the Chief Minister claimed that the state has witnessed an 80 percent reduction in referral cases.

He also said that a medical college would be established in the ADC area. In addition, the process for setting up a 50-bed super-speciality hospital in the state is underway. The government is ready to provide land for the project, and investors have also shown interest, he added.

Among those present at the event were Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Director Dr. Debashri Debbarma, Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine Director Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Medical Education Prof. H.P. Sharma, members of the Tripura Nursing Council, and others.

Nursing students were also felicitated with awards in various categories during the programme.
