A massive fire tore through Ward No. 1 of Sabroom Nagar Panchayat early Friday morning, leaving the family of Debashish Majumdar homeless and stripped of all possessions.

The blaze, suspected to have originated from a short circuit, spread rapidly after igniting stored rubber inside the house. Within minutes, the flames consumed the entire residence, destroying a car, a motorcycle, furniture, and valuables, reducing everything to ashes.

Firefighters from Sabroom and Manu Bazar fire stations rushed to the scene with two engines and battled the inferno for hours before bringing it under control. Officials from the Sub-Divisional Administration, including the Deputy Collector and Magistrate, inspected the site and assured immediate relief support to the affected family.

The tragedy drew the attention of local leaders, with South District Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta and former MLA Shankar Roy visiting the spot to console the victims. Their presence underscored the community’s solidarity in the wake of the disaster.

The incident has cast a shadow of grief across the neighborhood, where residents are rallying around the Majumdar family. Meanwhile, the administration has begun assessing the extent of damages to determine further assistance measures.
